Ingredients

Cake :

  1. 1 cup boiling water with 1 tsp instant coffee
  2. 1/4 cup butter, softened 
  3. 1 egg , room temperature
  4. 1 tsp vanilla extract
  5. 1 cup all purpose flour
  6. 1 cup white sugar
  7. 3 tbsp cocoa powder
  8. 1 tsp baking powder
  9. 1 tsp baking soda
  10. 1/4 tsp salt


Choclate Frosting

  1. 1/2 cup butter
  2. 2/3 cup cocoa
  3. 3 cup powdered sugar
  4. 1/3 cup milk
  5. 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

For cake

- preheat the oven to 350°. Line an 8x8 with parchment paper. Set aside.

- place the water with coffee and butter in a medium bowl. Beat the ingredients together with an electric mixer Until the butter is melted.

- Add the egg and vanilla to the bowl, using an electric mixer, beat the egg and vanilla into the ingredients in the bowl until well incorporated.

- Place the flour, sugar, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda, and salt in another medium bowl. Stir the ingredients to combine them.

- Sift in the dry ingredients to the wet mixture and beat for 2 minutes.

- pour the batter into the prepared pan. Bake for 25-30 minutes until a toothpick inserted in the centre comes out clean. Remove the cake from the oven to a wire rack to cool completely before adding frosting.


Cake Frosting

- melt the butter in a medium size saucepan. Stir in cocoa.

- alternately, add the powdered sugar and milk in the bowl, beating to spreading consistency. Add a small amount of milk if necessary to achieve the spreading consistency you want.

- stir in the vanilla.
